Features
Orange seahorses are commonly found in the shallow, calm waters along the California Sea. They prefer habitats with seagrass beds, kelp forests, or coral reefs where they can anchor themselves using their prehensile tails.
Curiosities
Orange seahorses from the California coast grow up to
20 cm and use their tails to cling to kelp and seagrass. They’re poor swimmers, relying on tiny fins that flap quickly, and they eat constantly due to their lack of a stomach.
Males carry eggs in a pouch and give birth, forming loyal bonds with their mates. They can move their eyes independently and change color for camouflage. However, pollution and habitat loss threaten their survival.
