Inspiring women — Yasmine Bohéas
There are so many women around the world that inspire me and my crew. Women who are creative, brave, funny and smart, women who share their work with the world and make it a better place. We are starting this series of posts with Yasmine Bohéas, also known as Bonjour La Smala, a friend and an inspiration. Let's meet her!
Ahoy Yasmine! Or shall I say bienvenue!. We love to have you and your beautiful kids here with us today. Could you introduce yourself? Where are you from, where do you live?
Thank you, I am happy to be here. Yes, I am half French, half Moroccan on my father's side and we all live in Toulouse since 2016.
You’re a mother of 2 amazing kids, Aymar and Jules, and you also work as a content creator for cool brands, among other things. How’s your everyday routine? What do you like the most of your job?
I am working from home, I always start getting the kids ready on the morning and once we're done I head to my desk with a large coffee :) I usually start organizing my day with a to do list. I can work on different customers during the same day. What do I prefer? The creative part for sure, I love playing with the space and thinking about the most beautiful composition for the picture I am about to take.
You used to live in Barcelona, a seaside city. What do you miss the most of it? What were your favorite places in the city?
I miss my friends first, for sure! Sometimes I miss the sea too but we are lucky to live in a house with a swimming pool. I miss some places like Santa Cristina or el Bar Brutal for the good biologic wine and the elaborated tapas. It is difficult to choose actually because I loved so many places in Barcelona.
We love your communication style, your creativity and how you empower women, do you want to tell us about your project “Le corps d’une femme”?
Thank you for your kind words about my work. This project started after giving birth to my second child. During a few months I couldn't look at my belly in the mirror. I had some difficulties to accept my new body, I felt so bad actually to think like that... kind of selfish, you know?
Because my two children are in perfect health, that is the only thing that matter. So I started posting one picture on Instagram showing my belly, like a kind of therapy... and all the women were so friendly and showing solidarity. After that I totally forgot about it and started to accept my body again.
Now I love photographing women and treating the subject on the whole part. Real and beautiful women, bodies with diseases, women getting old, women who have hang-ups. It is actually therapy through photography. They are telling me their personal stories/life and they get confidence.
I want to help them, I want them to feel good on their bodies because they will not have another one!
That's so beautiful. We also love that you talk openly about the brands you like, often small and ethical brands. Of course, we love that you love us! What do you like the most about Don Fisher?
Don Fisher is fresh and colourful, the brand is a good mood itself! I love the way the products can be funny and useful at the same time and also the fact that it is for adults and kids :)
Thank you so much for having us, Yasmine! You are such an inspiration.
Don't miss Yasmine's work and adventures!
